Signs You’re in Need of Heater Repair

If you haven’t already turned on your heater yet this season, you will soon! Your heater hasn’t run for a few months, and when you do turn it on you want it to work perfectly. But what happens if it doesn’t? If there are signs you’re in need of heater repair, you need to act fast. Allowing your heater to run when there are obvious repair needs just makes the damage worse.

Eventually, your heater will stop working altogether and you’ll have to invest in repairs or an entirely new heater depending on the severity of the damage. Why risk it? If you need Grand Rapids heater repair, we can help you right now before the problem gets worse. Wondering how you’ll know when it’s time to call us for those repair needs? Keep reading to learn more about the signs that it’s time for a heating maintenance appointment.

Startling Sounds

When you turn on your heater this season, it will make a few sounds. But those sounds should be fairly quiet and not at all alarming. Rattling, banging, and grinding are all signs that something is wrong with your heater. You may have a loose part, a lack of lubrication, or a bent fan blade. If you ignore these sounds, they will only get worse without being repaired and your heater may even break down completely.

Short Cycling

If you turn your heater on for the first time this season, it should run in regular cycles lasting around 15 minutes each. If your heat turns on and back off in less than 15 minutes, and then turns back on again soon after, your heater is short cycling. This may not seem like a big deal if your home stays warm, but it is a big deal. Short cycling puts a lot of stress on your compressor and can lead to large increases on your energy bills.

Dusty Surfaces

You need to dust the surfaces around your home occasionally…but not all the time. If you dust one day and notice a layer of dust again the following week, your heater may be to blame. This could be a problem with your filter being too dirty, or you might have holes in your ductwork allowing dust to enter your system after the air is filtered. Either problem is an easy fix, you just have to give us a call!

Lukewarm Temperatures

Don’t settle for an air conditioner that doesn’t live up to your heating expectations. Even on the coldest days of winter, you should be able to keep your home comfortably warm. If you hold your hand up to one of the air vents and feel lukewarm air, your heater isn’t working properly.

Dry Skin

If your skin and hair are feeling extra dry, your heater may be to blame. In the winter your heater helps to maintain a healthy level of humidity in your home that contributes to warmer temperatures. Without some humidity, the air is dry and so are your skin and hair. This may seem like a minor problem, but it’s definitely worth addressing for your well-being and comfort.
